This is my first read by this author. It was just okay. The story-line was good. I think the pace was a little slow. I think Syracuse and August were well suited for each other. August was dealing with PTSD and a bit of a commitment phobia. Syracuse had to come terms with the part she played in the death of a four year old. Although she followed the regulations she still feels somewhat responsible.Product details

Absolutely excellent read!!!! Loved the storyline!!!! Found myself rooting for August & Syracuse to "get over themselves" & let love happen!!!! Throughly enjoyed my two day prying into the lives of these characters!!!! A "MUST" read!!!! Couldn't put the book down!!!! Definitely a page-turner!!!!!
Amazing Book! I love this author she has really given us another great read. I read in one day! From start to finish. Let me tell you that I was glued to all the pages the moment I picked it up. I received it in paperback and even the cover art is amazing.
I got the pleasure to see Lili Porter read an excerpt from this book a couple months ago at a book signing in Torrance, Ca. We got to ask her questions about the story and got in deep about the characters in the book. She signed my book and left a sweet note for me. She is such a down-to-earth woman and a professional in what she does. I can see why her books are always gold.
Back to the book, Syracuse's story is very interesting and relatable in so many ways because she is just like I am, a middle class working woman. I can not spoil it because it is definitely worth the read. This book gets in depth about a social working case and the Navy Seals. All in between she finds love and experiences heartbreak and many accounts of joy. But there is so much more to the story than this. The details are impeccable and I cant wait to see the next book from this series. Looks like it is going to be very interesting.
This was a great read by this author. I loved Syracuse and August together. The were exactly what each other needed. This book addressed some real issues and the deliver was great. There were plenty of twists and turns. The connection between Syracuse and her friends and then August and his friends was great. They all had an awesome support system. Anxious to see how the Christina, Dane, and Josh situation play out. Can't say I feel bad for what happened to Mr. Jerk Tadpole. I loved that this was a STANDALONE novel even though it is part of a series. I am excited to see who is up next in this series and hopefully it will include a follow up on Syracuse and August's story. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.

Lili knocks me dead with character development right from the get-go, not the first time she's stunned me with the reality and the life in people she populates her novels with. Here it's Syracuse Nue York a woman with a heart larger than certain mean elements of society typically will allow for. She's a case worker who finds herself hunted for case-handling above & beyond ---- but who could let the murder of a child pass without trying to bring a margin of justice to bear.
Our Seal here is August Wilson---he's got Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and does not want his branch of Service to discover this or the scrutiny that comes along with the public knowledge of his tragic condition. I wouldn't either---totally get that! We hide what we can, to spare others as much -or moreso- as ourselves. In August's case, another case of cases here, if his higher-ups find out he will be OUT of the Seals. A man without a mission is no man, or some believe it to be so-
Syracuse & August, once they groove together, practice a 'therapy' on one another in this baby ----- the kind which typically is not advertised in professional journals or a person's CV---listen to me! Whooa-WOW
But they need one another for more than that; you don't get the lovin' spoonful if you are disgraced, drummed from service....or dead. Of course, it's the love lurking and waiting to be unleashed between them that threatens them most.
How's that for a dilemma?? Perhaps the most common but emotionally taxing we human creatures face in our lives upon this earth. And our challenges inside are always greater than those outside...

As a veteran, it was nice to read a military romance. Like how it delved into PTSD a little as well.
I was very impressed with this author and the knowledge she displayed of the inner workings of system employees and how some of the responsibilities can be diverted, thwarted or even ignored. The story-line came together quite well and she held my attention and anticipation of the results of or climax of this novel This book is an easy read and a page-turner. I would recommend to other readers and book clubs.
